The complexity came from their dual need: while the podcast needed to remain private to protect sensitive content, it also had to support reach, visibility, and future member acquisition. The team had a rich archive of recorded conference talks and access to a network of feline experts but lacked the in-house capacity to turn that into a professional, high-impact podcast.
They wanted to share bite-sized, expert-led episodes that could support veterinary professionals in improving feline welfare—and ideally, serve as a marketing tool to attract new members. But with a small team and no prior experience in podcasting, they needed not just a product, but a partnership.
Concept & Format
While iCatCare’s original plan focused solely on private, members-only episodes, we proposed a dual-format strategy:
A 35-minute technical version for registered members
A 15-minute public-facing cut with general-access content
This allowed them to preserve clinical integrity while using the public version as a teaser—helping potential members preview the value behind the paywall. It also opened opportunities for sponsorships and wider discoverability.
Distribution & Accessibility
Rather than hosting the content only on their website, we advised pushing both versions to standard podcast platforms. Through our private RSS feed system, members could access secure content via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and others—just like any other show—making the experience seamless across devices and routines.
This approach not only improved user experience but also delivered richer analytics. With real-time data, iCatCare could now track listener engagement, shape future content, and demonstrate reach to potential partners.
Team Integration & Production
Given the charity’s lean team, we proposed a fully managed service:
We joined them as podcast producers, handling editing, hosting, transcript generation, and regular reporting. This let their team stay focused on content expertise while we took care of the media delivery.
Training & Equipment
To maintain iCatCare’s personal and expert tone, we worked closely with Dr Nathalie Dowgray—then Head of iCatCare and an highly respected feline specialist—to serve as the show’s host. We trained Nathalie and her team in podcast presenting and interviewing, and delivered two branded guides for internal training and guest onboarding.
These resources helped them future-proof their workflow, ensuring high-quality content even through staff changes or growth.
Podcast Branding
Podcasts sit somewhere between formal education and informal conversation. We developed a visual and sonic identity that honoured iCatCare’s professional reputation while embracing the format’s accessibility. This included:
Bespoke album artwork
Internal-use PDF guides
A custom jingle (featuring sounds from Nathalie’s cat, Thomas!)
Ongoing Support & Growth
We continue to produce the show monthly, hosting it through our internal podcast network. Our system supports private RSS feed generation, advanced analytics, and public distribution—all managed seamlessly. iCatCare now enjoys a steady flow of high-yield, well-received episodes without stretching their internal resources.
They’ve also used our analytics reports to attract sponsorships from major veterinary brands—creating new income streams from the podcast.
